Get in touch Expo at Paper Art and Design

What was one of the most normal things, touch, suddenly became strange, during the pandemic. There was a desire for each otherothers attention and the abnormal became normal.

Now, after two years of distance we may be closer again, we may begin to intertwine with each other again. But perhaps we falter now, as we figure out again what the relationships are like. Where the boundaries were first clearly visible, they are now shadowy and we are trying to rediscover them. Interweaving and touching can even feel tense and sometimes like a struggle.

The expo is together with the beautiful paper works of Loes Schepens.

Kunstuitleen Voorburg

This month I am artist of the month at Kunstuitleen Voorburg.

Most of my works is from my ‘Let’s get lost in a story’ series. It is a series about the last covid period, without holidays, concerts, Museums and other inspiration we have to look in ourselves to find adventure.

Exhibition: Floating Observations
17 oct ’20 – 5 jan ’21

Paper Art & Design Gallery is celebrating the tenth edition of our exhibition series! What brings the current exhibition Floating Observations, with the H.E.R.B.S. paper project in collaboration with Studio Nienke Hoogvliet and concept brand FANT. There you can see the research result of one week of dyeing with Rosemary and Sage. We made many sheets of herbal paper, colored woolen scarves and collages of textile and paper. In the same exhibition Danièle Knirim shows her special new vintage collages. We celebrate the research and the arts!

My new series of works focus on the highs and lows in life. The collages are about jumping towards the sky and the nasty feeling of a free fall to a dark place. From everyone’s own emotional perspective it is recognizable when the bottom has been reached, only to start longing for the heights again. In the larger works it is persons jumping and falling, represented from different points of view. In the smaller works the figures fall into abstract forms which translate the heights and the depths.

For visiting and opening times, see the website of Paper Art & Design.

Wine label

Every year, “De Haagse Stadswijngaard”, a unique vineyard in The Hague, invites an artist from The Hague to make the wine label for their “Wine of the Year”. I was chosen to make the label for 2020.

It was such an honor to make an illustration of the bouquet of the wine. The fresh mix of flavors with a nose of freshly picked blossom, white peaches, apricots and a subtle sour.
The label and wine were launched on 19th of September on their annual open day. So thankful for this lovely commission and the bottles of wine!

Visual Identity for ice cream shop Lily à la Vanille, Citadelle de Blaye, France

I worked very hard and with a lot of fun to finish all the items for this cute ice cream stand in Citadelle de Blaye. The brave Inge started this shop in 2018 and asked me to design her identity and do some styling for her place. Now that the new ice cream season is coming again, it is time to further expand the visual identity, such as menus, outside plates and design for a festival point of sale. Instagram: @lilyalavanille

Collage workshop at Paper Art & Design, 9 March 2019

During this workshop you will learn how to create compositions of paper, patterns, color, pictures and surfaces. It doesn’t matter if you’re making a figurative or abstract image. We discuss your own chosen subject/fascination for your collage. Then we determine (using your sketches) with what materials and techniques you can go run. There will be choice from different paper types including some manufactured by Loes. The other are papers that Daniele itself also used in her collages.

The first workshop took place on 9 March 2019. The second workshop will take place on 6 April 2019.

Presentation Vuurvliegje at Object, 7 – 10 February

Presentation of a collaboration with vlak. For the past few months I have been busy with the development of a small light. While Gregor van Egdom (vlak) engineered the technical tour de force for this ultra efficient light, I came up with the idea and visual identity. We launch “Vuurvliegje” (Dutch for “Fireflies”) at the fair Object in the Haka Building in Rotterdam.

Expo: “Facetten van papier”, 15 January – 12 April 2019

I have my work on display in a lovely Gallery Paper Art & Design from Loes Scheepens in The Hague, I use paper and old book pages to make collages. In the series ‘Undressed’ persons depicted in layers of paper, that are dressing and undressing. The action dressing up is sometimes a struggle, then again sensual. Sometimes the ‘ fight ‘ with the garment so portrayed, that person seems to be almost one with the garment.

In alternation with the collages of me there is also work by Loes Scheepens. New hand-made wall objects, large and small, represent a very different world, dictated by nature, containing the stillness and movement. These works are going to have a connection with my collages.
